Kathmandu। . Nepalese suffering from complex diseases of the face, jaw and mouth will now be able to receive state-of-the-art treatment at home. As a new ray of hope for thousands of patients who have been forced to travel abroad for the treatment of such diseases for years, the construction process of Nepal’s first state-of-the-art maxillofacial hospital has been started in the Chabahil area of Kathmandu.
Om Samaj Dental Hospital, which has been providing services in the dental health sector for a long time, has announced the construction of a hospital fully dedicated to the treatment of complex diseases related to the mouth, teeth, jaw, face and neck. It is believed that after the hospital comes into operation, patients who are forced to travel abroad for special treatment will receive world-class service at home.
Although complex surgical services related to the mouth and face are available in Nepal, a fully dedicated and modern technology-equipped maxillofacial hospital structure has not been built so far. The hospital administration has stated that this ambitious project has been taken forward with the aim of addressing this shortage.
The project is being led by Dr. Subhash Ghimire, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Dr. Ghimire, who has extensive experience and expertise in the field of dental health, is known as an active physician in complex oral, maxillofacial surgeries in Nepal.
According to Dr. Ghimire, in recent years, there has been a significant increase in traffic accidents, industrial accidents, oral and facial cancers, internal tumors, serious infections, and congenital malformations in Nepal. He said that the number of patients suffering from serious injuries to the face and jaw, especially due to road accidents, is increasing day by day.
According to him, not getting timely treatment for such patients not only physically but also mentally and socially has a huge impact. Many patients end up in a situation where treatment is delayed or not received at all due to financial constraints.
Dr. Ghimire says with emotion, “Many patients suffering from facial disfigurement, jaw fractures or oral cancer after accidents cannot get timely treatment due to financial constraints. There are also examples where some patients are forced to sell their houses and go abroad for treatment. It is our responsibility to change this situation.”
According to him, complex facial and oral surgeries are not possible for general dentists or general surgeons. Such treatments require specially trained maxillofacial surgeons, state-of-the-art equipment and high-level infrastructure. Dr. Ghimire said, “The main objective of the hospital we are going to build is to reduce the compulsion to go abroad for treatment. We believe that Nepali patients should get safe, affordable and world-class services in their own country.”
The hospital under construction will have state-of-the-art facilities such as a state-of-the-art operation theater, 3D digital imaging and scanning system, in-house laboratory, ICU service, emergency room, anesthesia department, facial trauma unit and operative recovery ward.
The hospital aims to provide treatment for patients with facial injuries due to accidents, jaw fractures, oral and facial cancers, tumors, congenital malformations and other complex diseases under one roof.
In addition, there are plans to develop the hospital not only as a treatment center but also as a center for research, training and development of new technologies, Dr. Ghimire informed. According to him, the hospital will play an important role in producing skilled maxillofacial specialists in Nepal in the future.
The hospital also plans to train young doctors, introduce modern technology and collaborate with international-level health institutions.
Active in the dental health service sector, Om Samaj Dental Hospital has been providing affordable and quality services for the past few years. In addition, the hospital has been conducting free health camps, public awareness programs and social service activities at various places.
The hospital has stated that it has given priority to the campaign to provide health services, especially to rural and underprivileged communities.
This hospital, which is being built in the Chabahil area, is seen as not just a health institution but a project linked to the hopes, faith and future of thousands of patients.
If the construction is completed as planned and the service starts, it is expected to usher in a new era in the field of maxillofacial treatment in Nepal. It is believed that this will reduce the treatment costs of Nepali patients and make a significant contribution to the expansion of modern health services in the country.
