Nepal Mountaineering Association Wraps Up its 35th AGM

Kathmandu . The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) successfully concluded its 35th Annual General Meeting (AGM) today. The meeting ratified the policies, programs, and budget for the fiscal year 2082/083. In the closed session of the AGM, General Secretary Mr. Rajendra Bahadur Lama presented the policy and program framework for the fiscal year 2082/083, alongside the progress report for the fiscal year 2081/082. Treasurer Ms. Sumi Lama delivered the budget statement for 2082/083 and presented the audit report for 2081/082.

All general members present in the closed session engaged actively in discussions, offering insightful feedback on the reports presented by the General Secretary and Treasurer. Members also proposed constructive suggestions for refining the policies and programs. Following a comprehensive discussion, both reports were unanimously endorsed without amendments.

During the opening session of the AGM, the NMA recognized the top 10 agencies of fiscal year 2081/082 for their outstanding contributions to revenue generation through the sales of NMA peak permits. The honored agencies were:

  1. Nord Extreme Himalaya Pvt. Ltd.
  2. Mera Alpine Treks and Expedition (P.) Ltd.
  3. Adventure Everest Team Trek & Expedition P. Ltd.
  4. Ice Eight Thousand Pvt. Ltd.
  5. Asian Hiking Team P. Ltd.
  6. South Col Adventures P. Ltd.
  7. Seven Summit Treks P. Ltd.
  8. Satori Adventures Pvt. Ltd.
  9. Eight K. Expeditions P. Ltd.
  10. Makalu Adventures Pvt. Ltd.

The NMA also conferred Lifetime Service Awards to two of its retired staff members during the opening ceremony in recognition of their long-standing dedication and contributions. The award recipients were:

  • Ms. Radhika Syangwa – Lifetime Service Award
  • Mr. Shree Narayan Lama – Lifetime Service Award

The awards were graciously presented by Mr. Hari Prasad Mainali, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, on behalf of the NMA.

 “The Government will support the NMA for further advancement of Nepal’s mountain tourism”

Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mr. Hari Prasad Mainali, expressed the Government’s firm commitment to supporting the NMA in its initiatives to further develop and promote Nepal’s mountain tourism. He also assured that all unsettled issues concerning the NMA would be addressed in due course.

“We have just witnessed and endured an extraordinary period of disruption. The nation has faced unforeseen challenges and significant transformation. Despite this, we have managed to recover quickly,” Secretary Mainali stated. “Our entrepreneurs have shown resilience and have not abandoned their efforts. We must now move ahead with strong determination. The Government stands ready to support them. As for NMA’s outstanding matters, they will be resolved in due time.”

NMA President Mr. Fur Gelje Sherpa reaffirmed that the current executive body is fully committed to the broader development of Nepal’s mountain tourism, with particular emphasis on mountaineering and rescue training, environmental conservation in the high Himalayas, and global promotion of Nepal as a premier mountain destination.

“We have numerous proposals aimed at advancing mountain tourism, supporting the welfare of mountaineers, providing educational aid to children orphaned in the mountains, and improving services for general members,” President Sherpa added. “My team and I are dedicated to turning these proposals into tangible outcomes. I sincerely request your continued support.”

Director General of the Department of Tourism (DoT), Dr. Narayan Prasad Regmi, also pledged his continued support to the NMA in its mission to uplift Nepal’s mountain tourism. “I am well acquainted with the consistent efforts of the NMA in promoting Nepal’s mountain sector,” Dr. Regmi said. “Both I and the Department are fully prepared to collaborate with the NMA and extend all necessary support for the sector’s progress.”

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi, NTB Member Mr. Rishi Ram Bhandari, and President of the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN), Mr. Sagar Pandey, also emphasized the importance of partnership, collaboration, and collective effort for the sustained growth and promotion of Nepal’s mountain tourism.
